James E. Johnstone, Consultant Director, North America, PE, CSP
Jim is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas, California, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. He holds a “Certified Safety Professional” certificate from BCSP. Jim has over 40 years of industry and consulting experience in the areas of engineering, operations and Environment, Safety and Health at both domestic and international locations. Jim has extensive experience leading innovative programs to improve performance, reduce risk, assure regulatory compliance, and to manage costs. Areas of expertise include management systems development; EHS program implementation, hazard analysis, permitting, field operations, air issues, and quantification of potential liabilities, regulatory assurance programs, remediation, public affairs and petroleum engineering. Jim holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University.
Fred Woody, Managing Partner, Contek
Mr. Woody has 28 years of experience in the oil & gas industry and in other industries. He started his career as a Field Engineer with Schlumberger in Bakersfield, CA. He then joined WZI, a consulting firm in Bakersfield, specializing in engineering and environmental services, as a Staff Engineer. He left WZI to join AERA Energy as Production and Operations Engineer but was soon after recruited back to WZI to lead the consulting staff. WZI clients included members of the oil and gas industry, mining, dairy and agricultural industries as well as residential and commercial development industries. He has been involved in management systems development, reservoir engineering, EHS program development and implementation, waste management and water quality; environmental impact assessment and remediation. While at WZI he was directly involved with the development of an oil well abandonment technology for Chevron which was later spun off as a separate company called Benterra, where Fred became the Operations Manager. Fred subsequently joined Chevron as a Reservoir Engineer in Bakersfield then transferred to Houston to work as a Completion Engineer. Fred holds a B.A. in Geology from Amherst College in Amherst, MA, and a M.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA.
Joe Thomas, Finance Controller, North America
Joe holds a BBA from Baylor University and is a CPA. He spent most of his career with ARCO until 1999, in various finance and accounting functions. Since '99, he has worked in finance, accounting and as a CFO in the retail, oil and gas, and non-profit sectors. His primary role at Contek involves managing the financial and accounting parts of our business. Joe also leads other key aspects of our business operations, including the management of our liability insurance process, contracts, employee benefits and office management.
Jay Bailey, International, Offshore and Special Services
Jay has been with Contek since 2006. He has over 30 years of industry and consulting experience. Jay spent most of his career in the oil and gas industry, specifically at Mobil, working in reservoir engineering, operations and environmental and safety at both the domestic and international levels, including onshore and offshore. His EHS expertise includes regulatory compliance, program development and management, auditing, emergency preparedness planning and training. Jay also has experience with environmental and social impact assessment. He has worked with international governments and industry groups. Jay holds a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering from Mississippi State University.
Margaret Lowe, Environmental and Regulatory Services, PE
Margaret has over 30 years of providing environmental and safety expertise for compliance assurance regarding air, waste, water and natural/cultural resources, covering the states of Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas and North Dakota. She has provided environmental and safety expertise to management, as well as production, plant and drilling operations. Margaret has had direct involvement in activities such as HSE training and auditing, Environmental Management Systems and ISO 14001, SPCC plans, remediation and M&A due diligence reviews. She has been active in regulatory development and interpretation through various industry associations and regulatory agencies. In addition to the oil and gas industry, Margaret worked in HSE consulting, state government and the refining industry. She holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Trinity University in San Antonio and she is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas.
Mark D. Hansen, Risk and Safety Management, CSP, PE, CPEA, CPSA, CPE
Mark is the Director of Risk Management at Contek Solutions LLC in Plano, TX. Mark has over thirty-five years experience in safety, environmental and Risk Management. Mark has a B.S. in Psychology and a M.S. in Industrial Engineering, specializing in Safety and Ergonomics, both from Texas A&M University. He is currently the Past-President (2002-2003) and Fellow (2005) of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and continues to serve as Chairman of the Business of Safety Committee. Mark has authored over 200 technical publications including his third book on career development entitled, Climbing the Corporate Ladder-Safely! (May 2011) where some of the materials presented are discussed in detail. He is the past recipient of the Edgar-Queeny Monsanto Safety Professional of the Year Award in 1992-1993 and the Culbertson Outstanding Volunteer Service Award in 1991-1992 issued by ASSE.
